At the request of the London theatre The Royal Court, Wende will spend the coming months developing a new production.
The Royal Court is an icon in the international theatre world. For decades it has seen world famous writers begin their careers there, including names such as John Osbourne, Samuel Beckett, Sarah Kane, David Hare, Caryl Churchill, Mark Ravenhill and Simon Stephens.
Artistic director Vicky Featherstone was fascinated by Wende’s work with the writers Joost Zwagerman and Dimitri Verhulst in her latest show MENS, which will be performed for the last time in Paradiso in April. She asked Wende to collaborate with a group of up-and-coming female writing talents on a project with the working title ‘The Song Project’. The goal is to give the storytelling song a self-evident place in today’s world. During the coming months, Wende will work on the production in workshop-format with a planned premiere in the spring of 2020. The English artist Chloe Lamford, who was the visual designer for MENS, will work as director and take care of the visual development. It is not yet clear if the production will also be performed in the Netherlands.
