This prize, founded in memory of Sylvia Kristel by her good friend Bessel Kok, is awarded to emerging talents who, just like Sylvia herself, possess an exceptional personality, beauty combined with allure, a strong mind, and who nimbly set about breaking boundaries through their work. In short, someone who can continue the legacy of Sylvia Kristel as a cultural phenomenon.
The award also comes with a prize of €10,000, to support this emerging talent. The first laureate, Sylvia Hoeks, will play the role of Sylvia Kristel in a film about her life. Other laureates include Genevieve Gaunt (2015), Nina de la Parra (2016), and last year the actress Romy Louise Lauwers. The jury consists of: Bessel Kok, Dorna van Rouveroy van Nieuwaal, Ruud den Drijver, Marianne Kristel, Arthur Kristel, Jan Mulder, Max Pam, Peter Brul, Irene de Niet and Leo Hannewijk.
Singer-songwriter, theatre maker, chansonnière, actress, performer, producer, artist in residence at the Royal Theater Carré: Wende can do it all. With her distinctive voice and a healthy disregard for boxes and trends, she tells stories on the cutting edge of who and why. Wende mainly uses her platform for challenging, boundary breaking projects where language, technology and genre all play dynamic and surprising roles. Her most recent project MENS is a raw and controversial image of the times, making use of intoxicating electro beats and open-hearted, vulnerable songs. This production was released as Wende’s first Dutch-language album in the beginning of 2018, and is now touring for its second season across pop stages, festivals and theatres. She will be appearing on 24 August 2018 at the Open Air Theatre Caprera in Bloemendaal, and on 25 August at the Open Air Theatre De Kersouwe in Heeswijk-Dinther. In October and November 2018 she will be touring in clubs with MENS. More information: http://wende.nu/en/mens
